About Us

Who Are Vets for Vets' Pets?

We are a group of Veterinarians, Certified Veterinary Technicians, and Veterinary Assistants that represent over a dozen Phoenix-area clinics and hospitals.  We work together throughout the year to organize our efforts and train our volunteers, then come together each February to provide veterinary services to the pets of Arizona's veterans during the Maricopa County Arizona StandDown.

What Services Do We Provide?

At each event, we provide veterinary services such as vaccines, exams, wound care, ear cleaning, nail trims, and more; grooming; spay/neuter services; and supplies including pet food, collars, leashes, toys, clothes/shoes, bedding, and food bowls.  Everything is free of charge to veterans who register at the StandDown.

What is the Arizona StandDown?

The term StandDown comes from a practice during war times where soldiers are given a break from battle.  The metaphor refers to veterans battling life on the very streets that they fought to defend.  The Arizona StandDown is a three-day event that takes place every year at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum on the Arizona State Fairgrounds.  More than 100 state and federal agencies participate, including the Veteran's Administration, Department of Economic Security, county courts, the Social Security Administration, and the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Veterans are given new clothes and shoes, meals, haircuts, and places to shower.  Medical, dental, vision, and mental health care are provided, as well as job services, housing, and much more.  You can find out more information about the StandDown at https://azhousingcoalition.org/avsa/.
